2019-2020 GLOBAL PROJECTS

PROJECT  WELLNESS

Ambassadors would like to teach the children the importance of play in relieving stress, building teamwork, and just having fun. We would like to build a playground at Freedom Square in Pandamatenga, Botswana.  We will build an initial playground, then add on to it in future years.

The cost of the initial playground is $2000.

NOTE: The initial playground was jointly funded by the Global Ambassadors and the Wildtrack Safaris Eco Lodge. Additional donations will go towards upgrading and maintaining the playground.

PROJECT  MOSQUITO NETS

The purchase of 100 Mosquito nets for the villagers will help prevent Malaria and bug bites. These nets will be installed in the village of Pandamatenga, Botswana in March by the Global Ambassadors from Island Coast High School. We have received a discount on the nets this year, making them only $4 each to protect a family.

The cost of 100 mosquito nets is $400

NOTE: To date we have successfully installed 500 mosquito nets in Pandamatenga.  Our goal is to add 100 nets per year until Malaria is eradicated in Botswana.

ONGOING GLOBAL PROJECTS

PROJECT LIBRARY BUILD

The building of a school library at the AAS Ambassadors Learning Center in Kamatanda, Zambia. This building will include the book shelves and round tables for preschoolers to study.

 

The total cost of this new building is $5627.

THIS PROJECT WAS JOINTLY FUNDED BY THE GLOBAL AMBASSADORS AND THE COMMUNITY SERVICE BOARD OF THE BLAKE SCHOOL IN MINNEAPOLIS MINNESOTA. 

PROJECT  BOOKSHELVES

The library will require bookshelves to house the books. The library and bookshelves will be made by YCTC carpentry students.

The cost of the bookshelves is $964.

THIS PROJECT HAS BEEN FULLY FUNDED BY THE GLOBAL AMBASSADORS.

BOOKS WERE DONATED BY THE BOOK BUS OF ZAMBIA.

 

 

PROJECT EDUCATION FUND

Education costs for Eileen Munsaka whose father, Mr. Gathered, was tragically killed walking home from school.  Eileen wishes to remain at boarding school, but her father was the sole breadwinner in her family. We would like to fund her education each year until she graduates, so that she can then secure employment to help pay for her siblings to attend school.

Total cost for one year is $1500.

 

THE GLOBAL AMBASSADORS HAVE FULLY FUNDED EILEEN'S FINAL 4 YEARS OF BOARDING SCHOOL. 2016-2019

PROJECT HEARING AIDS

Francis struggles to learn because he has severe hearing loss, making it difficult to communicate with his teachers and peers.   We have sent Francis to a doctor in Harare and he determined that hearing aids will help amplify sound, but what he really needs are cochlear implants.  

 

The surgery and implants are $24,000.  

The cost for the hearing aids is $1500. 

THE HEARING AIDS HAVE BEEN FULLY FUNDED BY THE GLOBAL AMBASSADORS.  FRANCIS AND HIS FAMILY HAVE MOVED TO HARARE SO HIS FATHER COULD FIND WORK.  WE CONTINUE TO GET UPDATES AND PHOTOS.

PROJECT  READING BOOKS

Reading books for the 2 special needs classrooms at the Baobab School in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. The special needs program is new and they do not have any materials to help the children read and progress. 

Total Costs for this project is $350.

PROJECT Teacher Housing + Furniture

The AAS Ambassadors Learning Center in Kamatanda Zambia is staffed by volunteer teachers who work long hours to provide education for our students.  All teachers are orphans who live in stick and mud huts.  Our goal is to build decent housing for the teachers. Over the next few years, we hope to build houses for our 4 volunteer teachers. Thanks to our Starbucks promotion, we were able to build the first teacher house for Teachers Caroline and Oscar and their family. We hope to provide future houses for the other 3 teachers we sponsor in future years.  Each house needs  furnishings and household items once complete.

PROJECT  RECREATION

​Installlation of a basketball court at the AAS Ambassadors Learning Center in Kamatanda, Zambia.  Basketball is a great activity for the children as they can shoot hoops, play one one one, or play in teams. 

Total cost for this project is $10,000

AGRICULTURAL PROJECT

Chicks and chicken coop for a community egg project being organized by the WildTrack Safaris Eco Lodge.  The eggs from the chickens will help provide protein for the school lunch program and will teach children involved in the Wild Child program how to care for animals.

Total cost for this project is $750

THIS PROJECT WAS FULLY FUNDED BY THE FARM CLUB AT AAS.

 

PROJECT FOOD PROGRAM 

The Ambassadors have started a food program at the Ambassadors Learning Center in Kamatanda Zambia so that the children would receive one meal a day.  We have planted corn and provided bags of rice along with bowls,d spoons and cooking equipment.

Total cost for this project is $400 per year

THIS PROJECT WAS FULLY FUNDED BY THE GLOBAL AMBASSADORS IN 2015 AND 2016. 

Note: In 2017, the Botswana government began supplying corn to the school.

PROJECT  TEACHER TRAINING

​These funds go towards the second year of training for our volunteer teachers in Kamatanda, Zambia. The teachers need 3 years of training to become certified. Our teachers work 12 hours a day without a salary. These costs represent training for 6 teachers.  

The total cost is $6450 per year.

PROJECT COMMUNITY CENTER 

Helping the village complete construction on a new community center.  This center will offer space for the women's sewing group, recreation for kids, and language classes for adults.  The building was started but never completed.  We would like to help the community finish construction by paying for the paint and windows.

Total cost for this project is $3000

PROJECT  SANITATION

Building of a restroom annex for the volunteers at YCTC.  There is a volunteer house on site, but no restroom/shower. Volunteers come to YCTC to share their expertise for a year and need to have proper restroom facilities during their service.  

Total cost for this project is $800

PROJECT  GARDEN EQUIPMENT

These funds will be used to purchse gardening equipment for our Community Garden in Pandamatenga, Botswana.  The Eco Club has already raised funds for a solar pump to irrigate the garden.

The cost for the garden equipment is $250

PROJECT  SEEDS FOR GARDEN

​These funds will be used to purchase seeds for our Community Garden Project in Pandamatenga, Botswana.  The Eco Club has already raised funds for a solar pump to irrigate the garden.

PROJECT VOCATIONAL SKILLS

The construction of an auto mechanics repair center to train students to work on cars. YCTC began to stop the spread of AIDS by offering free training to AIDS orphans and former prostitutes. They currently have programs in food service, tailoring, carpentry and construction. The students at YCTC built and furnished the AAS Ambassadors Learning Center.

 

Total cost for this project is $2270

THIS PROJECT HAS BEEN FULLY FUNDED BY THE GLOBAL AMBASSADORS ALONG WITH 2 TOOL KITS FOR THE CLASS TO SHARE.

 

We are still awaiting completion of this project from YCTC

PROJECT SOCCER KITS

These funds go towards purchasing 22 soccer kits for the men's team in Pandamatenga, Botswana.  Soccer is a great outlet to keep villagers fit and focused.

Total Cost for this project is $700

PROJECT  FIELD UPGRADES

 

​These funds go towards soccer shade screens and benches for seating. There is currently no structures for players or spectators to sit and watch the matches.

The cost is $2500

PROJECT KITCHEN/GAS OVEN

The Breadlady of Pandamatenga (Ma Mishak) has been supporting her granddaughter by baking bread since her husband and daughter died.  Two years ago, the Ambassadors built a brick oven around her fire so she could bake larger quantities. Her business has grown.  She is taking English lessons and getting business skills training.  We would like to expand her business by adding a kitchen addition to her home, along with a gas oven and baking equipment/supplies. 

The cost is $1500
